Children of Abraham - Medical Equipment and Supplies to Heal the World $40 Million Worth of Medical Supplies Helps 29 Regions Around the World Children of Abraham, Inc., a 100% volunteer-driven nonprofit organization, was formed in 2004 with the principal mission of helping relieve suffering around the world by providing free medical supplies and equipment to areas where need is critical. And we aim to do this globally through local community-based efforts. Volunteers collect, sort and send surplus medical supplies and equipment donated by U.S.-based hospitals, as well as local professionals throughout our community in the Midwest area. The shipments go around the world where there is dire need for them – regardless of race, religion or politics and at no cost to the receiving hospitals. Three Shipments Sent to Haiti Due to great support from volunteers and donors, Children of Abraham has sent three 40-foot-high shipboard containers of medical aide to Haiti within the first two weeks after the earthquake devastated the country. “More than 100 volunteers helped with the Haiti shipments, estimated to be worth $1 million each,” said Champ Merrick, Executive Director of Children of Abraham. “These shipments have been the fastest we’ve sent out and our volunteers and donors have been imperative in making it happen.” The three containers included orthopedic and surgical supplies, hospital beds and mattresses, emergency kits, water, and nonperishable food items, including 2,400 lbs. of rice and beans in 100 lbs. bags.
